Antivirus has been advertised for a long period of time as a common product like toothpaste, detergent or car. Yet, despite being an everyday product, antiviruses are no longer without flaws and problems.
It’s not feasible for antivirus programs to keep up with the sheer quantity and variety of new malware that is being created every day. It is an arms race, and it is far from all home antivirus programs available online, they actually provide an overall security level that is close to 100%.
Another problem is that Trojans and viruses are able to alter your computer’s software so that it can’t detect them. This could be because the virus alters the settings of the antivirus program or because it’s able to create a false positive by utilizing one of its own functions or features.
Moreover, there are many cases when the antivirus software does not detect files even when they are infected with malware. The antivirus software hasn’t yet had a chance to adding the file to its database. To accomplish this, it needs to analyze the file and compare its content with malicious files already present in the database of the antivirus. This is a resource-intensive and long process. The more time it takes is, the less accurate detection. Additionally, the antivirus must install an interceptor of system events inside the protected computer kernel to analyze the data and send it to its engine to be analyzed.
